Forces of matter
The Tangible Intangible: An overview of this series of pieces created between 2000 and 2003.
“I chose the cross-mix” – Oil, 2000, 120×90.
The ‘Forces of Matter’ series is a visceral exploration of the physicality of paint and the palpable energy of colors in motion. Here, Delmeire confronts the canvas with a boldness that mirrors his approach to life. With strong impasto and a fusion of forms, this series reflects the tactile experiences of Delmeire’s early years in construction and carpentry, where the texture of materials and the solidity of structures were his daily lexicon. The layering of colors—blue, red, yellow, green, and purple—serves as an allegory for the layers of Delmeire’s own existence, each hue a chapter, every texture a story.

This series is a testament to the artist’s belief in the transformative power of art. Just as he once molded materials into buildings, now he shapes paint into experiences. The ‘Forces of Matter’ demands that viewers engage not just visually but physically, to feel the weight of the impasto, the tension of colors in conflict and harmony, and to find resonance with the tangible aspects of their own lives.
“Fire under the waves”, Acrylic, 2001, 180×200.
Delmeire’s work here is a celebration of the material world and its intersection with the spiritual—a recurrent theme in his biography. It suggests that the physicality we touch and see is just one dimension of existence, and through the act of creation, we can transcend to a place where matter becomes a conduit for the deeper forces at play in our lives.
“The waves”, Acrylic & Oil, 2003, 90×80.
